Honoring the Light: A Summer Solstice Reflection

The summer solstice, a time when the light returns and we experience the longest day of the year. It is an invitation to welcome joy, abundance, and renewal.

Though life is filled with ups and downs, no matter the season, the light can remind us to pause and focus on the reasons for gratitude, even in the midst of the storm.

Today, my family will come together to honor the matriarch on my paternal side, my Aunt Neen (Eileen). At some point in each of our lives, she helped raise us, from nurturing her younger siblings in her youth, to lovingly caring for her children, nieces and nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

She has always been a beautiful, nurturing, creative, honest, and empathetic woman, someone who maintained a safe, welcoming space in her home for visits, holidays, and unexpected drop-ins.

On this first day of summer, I’m choosing to embrace the watery, emotional energy of Cancer season that arrives with the solstice. I’m allowing my feelings to rise, without judgment or the need to suppress them.

The price of love is grief. And to love, truly and deeply, means we will, at some point, experience loss. But without love, we would never know the depth of real connection.

Recently, a memory surfaced as I spoke to friends about Aunt Neen’s unconditional love. On one visit, we sat in her living room talking, with the TV playing softly in the background. She mentioned how much she enjoyed watching Teresa Caputo, The Long Island Medium. That opened the door for me to say, “I do some of the same things she does.” Without hesitation or judgment, Aunt Neen smiled and said, “Sometimes, I think I do too.” We talked about how everyone has intuition, and how our connections with loved ones can remain alive through signs, symbols, and unseen threads of love.

I invite you to take a moment and reflect:

- What do you need right now to feel peace, joy, gratitude, or love?

- What parts of you reflect the light within, for yourself and others?

- How can you gently create space to feel your emotions, honor how they show up in your body, and release them with compassion?

If you feel called to share, I’d love to read your reflections in the comments!

Thank you for being here! It’s a gift to share this space with your light.

With cards turned, spirit near, and healing light flowing,

Rebecca 🧡☀️💛
